Overview

Nakupuna Companies is seeking a Staff Scientist to support the Environmental Services line of business, with a focus on Munitions Response (MR), providing technical services in support of project planning and execution.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of field and office duties involving the planning, execution, coordination, monitoring, and support of environmental projects with a focus on MR but may also include traditional environmental.
  • Prepare/assist in development of Quality Assurance Project Plans (QAPPs), sampling plans, Accident Prevention Plans (APPs), Site Safety and Health Plans (SSHPs), and other work plans.
  • Assist in planning, managing, and conducting outreach for projects to include preparing community/public outreach materials and presentations.
  • Assist with planning and conducting assessments, investigations, remedial/removal actions, site restoration, and long-term management and maintenance of environmental sites.
  • Support munitions constituents sampling and assessment activities: Coordinate samples and documentation with laboratories, review and organize environmental data, and support and maintain project databases.
  • Prepare/assist in preparation of technical reports, tables, and figures; coordinate project data with GIS personnel.
  • Travel to project sites may be required.

Qualifications

Skills/Qualifications: Ability to professionally interact with managers, coworkers, field operations staff, technical staff, and subcontractors. Capable of supporting development of project work plans, health and safety plans, etc. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written). Self-motivated, able to function as part of a team, able to think critically. Additionally, must possess a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record as evidenced by a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check. Must be a U.S. citizen.

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in geology, environmental science, biology, engineering, or related field from an accredited college or university required. A minimum of three years’ experience in environmental consulting, with a preference for candidates with MR/unexploded ordnance (UXO) project experience. Proficient with software including but not limited to Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, etc.), and Adobe.

Certification: OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER Certification with current 8-Hour Annual Refresher preferred. OSHA 30-hour General Industry or Construction Industry safety training, and/or Construction Quality Management for Contractors (CQM-C) certifications preferred.

  • Must be able to perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to, lifting (up to 50 pounds unassisted), bending, standing, climbing or walking.

  • Must be able to handle hazardous materials safely and tolerate exposure to various hazards.
  • Must be able to work in harsh conditions, outdoors, often in extreme temperatures.

The Nakupuna Companies use a market-based compensation strategy to ensure that our employees are compensated within applicable market ranges commensurate with multiple factors, including but not limited to the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability, organizational requirements, and position location. The projected compensation range for this position is $75,000 to $85,000 annually. The range displayed represents the typical range for this position and is just one component of Nakupuna Companies total compensation package for employees.
