Overview

Nakupuna Federal, as part of the NFB Management Consultants (Joint Venture), is seeking a Data Integration, Security & DevSecOps Engineer to design, secure, and automate the pipelines, connectors, and workflows that drive the Defense Health Agency’s (DHA) federated data ecosystem. This role combines data engineering, cybersecurity, and DevSecOps expertise to ensure that all solutions are continuously tested, validated, and compliant with DoD and healthcare security standards. The Engineer will play a critical role in advancing DHA’s mission to safeguard military healthcare data, enable interoperability, and support operational readiness. By embedding Zero Trust principles and DevSecOps practices into DHA’s enterprise data modernization effort, the Engineer will ensure solutions are secure, resilient, and high quality.

As part of the NFB JV team, this position will support all ten program objectives, including:

  • 1–2: Contribute secure harvesting and automation to support inventory and metadata management.
  • 3–5: Enforce automated governance and lifecycle policies in data pipelines.
  • 6–7: Conduct UAT support, automate QA checks, and run stress/performance tests.
  • 8–9: Develop reusable components and validate AI/ML pipeline readiness with automated compliance.
  • 10: Deliver transition playbooks, automation scripts, and sustainment knowledge transfer.

  • Design, configure, and maintain secure ingestion pipelines and data connectors for DHA enterprise systems.
  • Automate metadata harvesting and tagging processes, ensuring classification accuracy across domains.
  • Integrate Zero Trust principles into all ingestion and access workflows.
  • Conduct infrastructure and workload performance testing, producing technical validation reports.
  • Collaborate with metadata SMEs, analysts, and DHA stakeholders to align harvesting and integration practices with governance and lifecycle policies.
  • Ensure DHA data catalog solutions remain interoperable with broader DoD data environments (ADVANA, VAULTIS, VANTAGE, MAVEN).
  • Contribute to compliance reporting, catalog accuracy assessments, and validation of secure data flows.
  • Provide technical support for transition activities, including knowledge transfer and documentation.

Qualifications

Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Engineering, or related technical field required.
  •  8–10+ years in data integration, cybersecurity, or DevSecOps roles. Must demonstrate experience designing secure pipelines, building CI/CD workflows, and automating compliance validation in federal or healthcare environments.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting the Military Health System (MHS) or DHA initiatives.
  • Familiarity with DoD enterprise data platforms (ADVANA, VAULTIS, VANTAGE, MAVEN).
  • Proven ability to evaluate and recommend COTS integration tools, ensuring cost-effectiveness, scalability, and security.
  • Knowledge of healthcare data security standards (HIPAA, NIST SP 800-171, DFARS 252.204-7012).
  • Background in infrastructure stress testing and performance optimization.
  • Knowledge of AI/ML pipeline integration and security requirements.

Certifications (Required): Security+ CE

 

Certifications (Preferred): CISSP, SAFe DevOps Practitioner (SDP), AWS/Azure/GCP Architect, or equivalent DevSecOps/cloud credential.

Clearance Requirements:

  • Must have the ability to obtain a Secret clearance.
  • Demonstrated understanding of HIPAA, PHI/PII/CUI protections, and compliance with NIST SP 800-171 and DFARS 252.204-7012. 

Travel Requirements: Ability to travel up to 10% of the time to DHA HQ, stakeholder sites, or partner facilities across CONUS.

 

Work Location: Hybrid work environment at Nakupuna Federal offices (Arlington, VA), DHA HQ (Falls Church, VA), and remote work as approved. Core work hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday thru Friday except Federal holidays or when the Government facility is closed.

 

Physical Requirements: The ideal candidate must at a minimum be able to meet the following physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation:
