Overview

Nakupuna Consulting is looking for a Senior Congressional Affairs Analyst to join our team of talented consultants providing professional services to a Department of Defense client. The ideal candidate has significant Department of Defense (DoD) experience to include familiarity with congressional hearings and Capitol Hill.

Responsibilities

  • Provide congressional affairs support to program leadership for engagements with Congressional members and their staff.
  • Prepare draft minutes and/or verbal reports of conferences and meetings. Prepare, produce, and provide briefings and presentation materials for senior leadership.
  • Maintain a comprehensive record of materials provided to Congress for reference and purposes of consistency.
  • Draft responses to congressionally related internal DOD requests in preparation for interaction with Congress.
  • Provide policy analysis in support of program offices.
  • Review the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) and advise on potential impact to program offices.
  • Author legislative proposals and testimonials for congressional hearings in collaboration with program offices.
  • Monitor, track and manage responses to Congressional inquiries. Coordinate with related offices to ensure complete, accurate, and timely responses.
  • Create and edit articles, news releases, fact sheets, talking points and other written content to stimulate internal and external interest in command accomplishments and enhance understanding of the command, its workforce and mission.
  • Participate in regular meetings (in-person and virtual) to stay abreast of organizational accomplishments and to keep the organization informed of current and upcoming public relations activities.

Qualifications

Skills/Qualifications: The ideal candidate will be familiar with and have experience with the following technical knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Demonstrated experience in congressional and legislative affairs.
  • Familiarity with Capitol Hill and congressional hearings.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Effective communication and problem-solving skills. Must possess strong organizational skills and great attention to detail.
  • Takes initiative and exercises personal accountability for achieving high quality outcomes. Responds promptly to customer needs.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills.
  • Experience with CATMS and other DoD systems is preferred.

Education and Experience: 5-10 or more years of relevant experience and Bachelor's degree required. A Master’s degree is preferred.

 

Location: Work is performed on Government site at the Pentagon five days a week.

 

Clearance: This position requires the ability to obtain a TS/SCI security clearance. Must be a U.S. citizen.

 

Physical Requirements: The ideal candidate must at a minimum be able to meet the following physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation:

  • Ability to perform repetitive motions with the hands, wrists, and fingers.
  • Ability to engage in and follow audible communications in emergency situations.
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods at a desk and working on a computer.
