Overview

Nakupuna Consulting is seeking an experienced Graphic Design Specialist to support the Department of Defense (DoD) Enterprise Software Initiative (ESI) under the Custom Training Development and Delivery Support Services contract. ESI is a strategic sourcing program that improves the acquisition of software and IT products across the DoD by increasing efficiency, reducing costs, and ensuring compliance with federal procurement regulations. The Graphic Design Specialist will be responsible for creating and producing professional-quality graphic assets for digital and print media in alignment with brand standards and project goals. The ideal candidate will possess a strong command of visual design principles and extensive experience collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders to develop effective and engaging visual communication materials.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver a variety of graphic materials, including infographics, digital media, presentations, training collateral, reports, and printed publications.
  • Ensure designs adhere to established brand guidelines, accessibility standards (e.g., Section 508), and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with clients, subject matter experts, and cross-functional teams to conceptualize and translate ideas into compelling visual formats.
  • Prepare files for both digital publication and professional printing, ensuring technical accuracy in layout, color, and resolution.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring on-time and on-budget delivery.
  • Maintain and organize graphic assets, templates, and documentation to support consistent visual output across the program.
  • Implement and iterate on feedback to continuously improve visual content and maintain high-quality standards.

Qualifications

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in layout, typography, visual storytelling, and digital design.
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, After Effects, XD) and working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Solid understanding of composition, branding, color theory, visual hierarchy, and print/digital production techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present and explain creative concepts clearly.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, Digital Media, or related field.

 

Experience:

  • 4-7 years of professional experience in graphic design or visual communications, preferably in a government contracting or DoD environment.
  • Experience with federal/military clients or training development projects.
  • Familiarity with accessibility compliance (e.g., Section 508).
  • Working knowledge of web design, UX/UI, or basic HTML/CSS.

Clearance Requirements: No clearance required. Must be a U.S. citizen.

 

Location: The position is primarily based at Nakupuna facilities in Arlington, VA; however, the candidate is expected to support up to four in-person training events annually in San Diego, CA, or Washington, D.C. 

 

Physical Requirements: The ideal candidate must at a minimum be able to meet the following physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Ability to perform repetitive motions with the hands, wrists, and fingers.
  • Ability to engage in and follow audible communications in emergency situations.
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods at a desk and working on a computer.
